Augusto Pinochet (Valparaíso, 25 de noviembre de 1915 – Santiago, 10 de diciembre de 2006). Militar y político. Encabezó el golpe de Estado del 11 de septiembre de 1973 y una dictadura militar entre 1973 y 1990. Presidente de la República (de facto) entre el 17 de diciembre de 1974 y el 10 de marzo de 1981, y con rango constitucional entre el 11 de marzo de 1981 y el 11 de marzo de 1990. Senador vitalicio entre el 11 de marzo de 1998 y el 4 de julio de 2002. Comandante en Jefe del Ejército entre el 23 de agosto de 1973 y el 10 de marzo de 1998
